back to Organic Consumers Assn. Food Irradiation page ACTION: STOP IRRADIATION OF FRESH FRUITS
|
|
SAMPLE LETTER - PLEASE MODIFY Date: Papaya Administrative Committee 230 Kekuanaoa St Hilo, Hawaii 96720-4318 Dear Sir or Madam: I do not wish to purchase any irradiated foods. I know that some Hawaiian papayas are being irradiated and sold without labels in California. Irradiation offers no benefit to me; it only allows the grower to ship a riper and more 'attractive' product. But irradiation damages vitamins and enzymes, and produces a food that is essentially cooked rather than fresh. Unfortunately, the FDA allows irradiated fruits to be labeled "fresh." If any Hawaiian papayas and other tropical fruits are irradiated, I will have no choice but to boycott all these fruits when they come from Hawaii. When I buy fruits, I want their full nutrition, not some fake-fresh, damaged food. Yours truly, Name & Address cc: Letters to the Editor The Honolulu Advertiser 605 Kapiolani Blvd. Honolulu, HI 96813 |
