Denver, Colorado
Just back from our protest at the new Starbucks in downtown Denver.
We had a really good time, had a few folks turn out, and distributed
a lot of information. Last night I met with the store manager
and was blown away by how supportive, informed and prepared they
were. The woman I met supported our cause, took our literature
and even gave us a packet of information they had prepared to
distribute to their customers today. She only asked that we not
distribute within the store.
So this morning we began just after 730am. We had a few friends
first of all, then some other people who had heard about the protest
from some of the local Direct Action mailing lists I posted to.
We even had two young girls whose mother had heard about this
directly from you, I believe.
From the people we met I am now aware of a group called CCFL
who are pushing strongly for the labeling of GMO-based foods in
Colorado. They actually have a meeting tonight which I plan on
attending. Angela Medberry was the woman who we met from this
group. All in all the people we passed info out to were really
receptive.
We engaged several people in conversation and briefly explained
the reason for the nationwide protests. A couple of people had
no interest, some looked ready to kill if we attempted to block
them from their morning coffee!
We didn't see any media show up, but this is Denver. There are
two main newspapers here, who have a special business relationship
and are equally useless. I don't watch tv or listen to the radio
so I don't know who may have been the best to see there. Regardless,
the press releases were sent out and they are aware of the OCA.
One really interesting thing was that a woman gave us a flyer
for a talk happening this Thursday by Ronnie Cummins. That name
sounded familiar to me. It was strange that I was handing out
your info on the corner about two blocks away from where Ronnie
will be talking in two days, and I had no idea. I'm excited to
meet him and see what he has to say. Please keep us informed of
other events you guys are involved with in this area! I am also
excited to hear how the remainder of the protests go today, I
wish everyone luck.
