SACRAMENTO, CA: Despite the fact that over two thirds of the foods on US supermarket shelves currently contain genetically engineered (GE) ingredients, no long term safety testing has been performed to determine the health effects on those eating them.

The US government and the biotech industry claim their products have been thoroughly tested, yet numerous reports from the field indicate that animals can tell the difference between GE and non-GE feed and will refuse to eat GE-tainted crops if given alternatives.

In addition there is mounting evidence that GE crops and animal drugs seriously damage human and animal health and pose a major threat to the environment and the survival of family farms.

" Thousands of protesters are gathering in Sacramento this week to deliver a blunt message to the Bush Administration and the biotech industry: Stop forcing genetically engineered foods and crops down the throats of unwilling humans and animals. Sacramento is the beginning of the end of Dr. Monsanto's genetic experiment." Stated Ronnie Cummins, National Director of Organic Consumers Association.
